DESIGNATIONS
This section lists the insurance professional designations available, profiles them, and shows how and where you can fulfill the requirements to obtain the designation itself.

Associate in Underwriting (AU)

Designed for people experienced at underwriting and placing commercial insurance ( such as agency and company underwriters, field representatives, and account managers), the four-course AU program deals with underwriting decision making on individual risks and on a book of business.

People who complete the AU program should be able to demonstrate their professional competence by applying underwriting principles, including exposure identification, coverage knowledge, key underwriting considerations, and loss control techniques. These principles and the underwriting decision making process tie the financial-protection needs of policy-holders to the profile of a describe and profitable account from the perspective of the insurance company. Completers earn the AU designation.

There are no formal prerequisites, but the program assumes some underwriting experience and a working knowledge of insurance principles and coverages. Student who want to learn more about lines of insurance with which they are unfamiliar can do so through the Institutes Program in General Insurance (see left column).
