Build the ark before it rains! In October 1982, I was asked by my employer to develop a crisis-management plan. Of course, I had other, more pressing things to do and was certain that nothing would happen on my watch. Six months into my tenure, we received a bomb threat. The ball was thrown into my court and "on-the-job training" took over.

From that point in time, I became an advocate of crisis-management planning. I fully understood that no one, no matter how small or large the revenue base, is immune to a crisis. I spent 12 months researching crisis management and then wrote a book. Since then, I've worked on more than 40 crisis situations.

The Janine Reid Group, Inc. was formed to provide consulting services exclusively in the areas of crisis-management planning, tabletop crisis simulations, and media training. I write customized plans for companies and provide training on their use. I also make approximately 30 presentations a year to a variety of organizations.

The bomb threat of 1982 ended up being the best professional experience of my life. I truly understood the value of building the ark before it rains.
