The John Todd Research Foundation Regulation of the Life Insurance Business Jon S. Hanson |
The John Todd Research Foundation
In 1992, The John Todd Research Foundation was formed at The American College with contributions made by members of the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting and other friends of John Todd. The foundation is a tribute to John Todd for his outstanding contributions to the financial services industry. The foundation’s goal is to promote scholarly research in life insurance and related financial services.
John Todd, CLU, was a living legend in the sales and service end of the life insurance business long before he reached the normal retirement age of 65 in 1967. Todd, the 1951 MDRT president, became a charter member of the MDRT’s heralded Top of the Table when he was 75 years old and continued producing at TOT levels for 10 consecutive years through his mid-80s. He has earned Round Table membership each year through 1994, his 92nd year, and has set an unprecedented record of 60 consecutive years as a qualifying member of the Round Table.

1996 The American College Dedication Without the inspiration and support of two very important persons in my life, there is little likelihood that this book would have ever been written. First, Robert E. Dineen—a trial lawyer, Superintendent of Insurance of New York, President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), Chairman of the Board of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and Consultant to the NAIC—was my mentor and friend. He brought me out of law school into both the insurance business and the regulatory ranks. From the outset of my career until the day he passed away, he provided continuous guidance and support. No expression of appreciation is adequate for all that he has meant to me. Second, no husband could have had a more supportive and loving wife than I have been blessed to have. Whatever the twists and turns in my career path, whatever the ups and downs, encouragement was ever forthcoming, complaints were not. Although Rosemary also has departed, her memory is always with me and her support continues eternal in all that I do. Thus, to Bob Dineen and my wife Rosemary I dedicate this book. John S. Hanson
